MA Accountancy and German
About this course
Accountancy and German is a combination built on the recognition that accountancy is most powerful when it can be applied without the constraints of a single language or national regulatory context. Germany is Europe's largest economy, home to some of the world's most significant industrial and financial enterprises, and German-speaking Europe encompasses a cluster of prosperous and commercially active nations. Combining rigorous accountancy training with genuine German language proficiency gives you a competitive advantage in European and international business that a purely domestic accountancy qualification cannot provide. At the University of Aberdeen, this five-year full-time programme grounds you in accountancy, business, and finance while giving you the cultural perspective and language skills that open doors in European and international organisations. You will study financial accounting, management accounting, taxation, auditing, and the business and legal frameworks within which accounting practice operates, alongside German language and literature, giving you both the technical qualification and the intercultural competence that international employers value. The combination is specifically designed to provide the competitive advantage of a modern European language on top of a solid accountancy foundation. Accountancy and German graduates are particularly well placed for careers in international accounting firms, multinational corporations with operations in German-speaking markets, investment banks, and organisations with European financial responsibilities. The accountancy component provides a strong foundation for professional qualifications including those offered by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland, ACCA, and CIMA, with potential for exemptions from some examinations. German language skills add significant value in firms with European client bases or operations. Beyond accountancy, the combination opens roles in international financial services, trade finance, and the management of German-speaking subsidiaries of UK or international organisations. Postgraduate study in accounting, finance, or European business is also available.
