BAcc Accountancy and Sport
About this course
Accountancy and sport is an unusual and commercially astute combination, addressing the financial management of one of the world's largest and most distinctive industries alongside the broader accountancy training that opens doors across virtually every sector. The sports industry is extraordinarily diverse, encompassing professional sports clubs, governing bodies, event management, sports broadcasting, sponsorship and endorsement, sports facilities and the growing world of sports technology and data analytics. Financial literacy and accountancy expertise are central to the management of all of these, from the cash flow management of a local sports club to the complex financial structures of a Premier League football club or international sporting federation. At the University of Stirling, you will study this programme over four years full time, following the Scottish honours degree structure, with a year abroad included in the programme. Stirling has a strong tradition in sport and sport management alongside a well-regarded business and management faculty, and the combination reflects the university's distinctive character. The typical entry tariff is around 168 UCAS points. You will study the foundations of financial and management accounting, audit, taxation, corporate finance and business law alongside specialist sport management content covering the business of sport, event planning, sports marketing, the economics of professional sport and the governance of sporting organisations. The year abroad gives you the opportunity to study accountancy and sport management in an international context, extending your professional and cultural horizons. Graduates of accountancy and sport programmes work in the financial management and commercial operations of sports clubs, governing bodies, sports agencies and event management companies, as well as in mainstream accountancy and financial roles across any sector. Many pursue professional accountancy qualifications after graduating, working towards membership of ICAS, ACCA or ICAEW. Roles in sports finance, commercial management, ticketing and revenue analysis, and sports broadcasting contracts are all common destinations. Postgraduate study in sports management, accountancy or finance is a further option.
