About this course

Accounting and finance provide the quantitative and analytical foundations of commercial and organisational life. Accounting is concerned with how financial activity is recorded, reported, and interpreted, and with ensuring that organisations account accurately for their activities to shareholders, regulators, and the public. Finance examines how capital is raised, deployed, and valued, and how risk is managed across different kinds of assets and investments. Together, they are among the most directly vocational of academic disciplines, providing strong pathways to professional qualification and careers across business, the public sector, and financial services. At the University of Chester, this four-year full-time programme includes a foundation year designed for students who do not yet have the academic qualifications for direct entry to the first year of the degree but who have the ability and commitment to succeed. The foundation year is not a barrier but a bridge, providing the mathematical, analytical, and study skills needed to thrive in the main programme. From there you will progress through financial reporting, management accounting, corporate finance, taxation, and auditing, developing both technical knowledge and the professional and ethical framework within which accounting and finance operate. The typical entry tariff is 56 UCAS points, making this one of the more accessible routes into an accounting and finance degree. Graduates pursue careers as accountants, financial analysts, auditors, corporate financiers, and financial managers across professional services, industry, banking, and the public sector. Many pursue professional accounting qualifications from bodies such as the ICAEW, ACCA, or CIMA following graduation. Further study options include postgraduate degrees in accounting, finance, and business administration.
