BA Accounting and Finance
About this course
Accounting and finance is the language of business decision-making. Accounting provides the systems and conventions through which organisations record, measure, and communicate their financial activity, while finance examines how capital is raised, invested, and managed over time. Together they give you the tools to understand what is happening inside an organisation and to advise on what should happen next, making accounting and finance graduates central to how businesses of all sizes operate. At the University of Winchester, this three-year full-time programme develops both technical accounting competence and the broader analytical and digital capabilities that the profession increasingly demands. You will study financial reporting, management accounting, auditing, taxation, corporate finance, and investment, building your understanding of both the rules that govern financial practice and the reasoning behind them. The programme pays particular attention to developing your digital skills and your ability to think agilely in a sector being shaped by automation, real-time data, and changing regulatory expectations. Graduates from accounting and finance programmes are well placed for professional training with accountancy bodies, for which a qualifying degree can provide exemptions from certain examination papers. Careers span public practice accounting, management accounting in industry, financial analysis, corporate finance, banking, insurance, and financial planning. The range of sectors that need qualified accountants is extremely broad, from charities and public bodies to technology companies and multinational corporations, making accounting and finance one of the most transferable degrees available. Postgraduate study in finance, taxation, and business is also a route for those who wish to specialise.
