BSc Accounting and Finance with Placement
About this course
Accounting and finance degrees equip you with two of the most fundamental sets of commercial skills: the ability to record, report and interpret financial information accurately, and the ability to analyse and manage financial assets, risk and value in market and organisational contexts. Together they prepare you for the financial functions that underpin every business and public body, whether you want to work in professional practice, corporate finance, investment or the public sector. At the University of Gloucestershire, this four-year full-time degree includes a twelve-month work placement year, giving you direct professional experience in an accounting or financial services environment as part of your undergraduate education. You will study financial accounting and reporting, management accounting, corporate finance, taxation, auditing, investment and financial markets, developing both technical competence and the analytical judgement that professional roles require. The placement year provides the practical context in which academic learning becomes professional skill, and graduates who complete placements typically find that their professional readiness on entering the job market is significantly ahead of those who have not. Gloucestershire's programme is designed with career entry in mind, and the combination of the degree and placement experience provides a strong foundation for the professional qualifications, including ACCA, CIMA and ICAEW, that most accounting and finance careers require. A typical entry tariff of around 104 points is expected. Graduates pursue careers in accounting firms, corporate finance departments, investment banking, treasury, audit, taxation, financial analysis and the public sector. The professional qualifications built on this foundation provide the long-term career structure that accounting and finance offer, and many graduates achieve chartered status within a few years of graduation. Postgraduate study in accounting, finance or business is also an option for those who wish to specialise or accelerate their career progression.
