BA Acting and Drama
About this course
Acting and drama is a discipline that develops you as a performer, a creative collaborator, and a thinking practitioner who understands the tradition you are working in and the audiences you are communicating with. Theatre has been central to human culture for millennia, and contemporary drama extends its reach into film, television, new media, and immersive forms that are reshaping what performance can be. Training as an actor means developing the physical and vocal instrument, deepening your understanding of character and text, and building the collaborative skills that all professional production environments demand. At Liverpool Hope University, this three-year full-time programme combines performance training with a broader study of drama as a form of cultural expression. You will develop your acting technique across both stage and screen contexts, study theatrical history and theory, explore devising and collaborative creation alongside text-based work, and build the professional habits that working in the industry requires. A sandwich year gives you a sustained period of professional engagement with the industry, a year abroad broadens your experience of drama in different cultural contexts, and work placement experience is woven throughout the programme. Graduates from acting and drama programmes work as professional actors across stage, screen, and new media. They also pursue careers as directors, drama teachers, community arts practitioners, drama therapists, theatre producers, and movement directors. The skills developed during a drama degree, communication, empathy, collaboration, and the ability to inhabit and express complex human situations, are also valued across education, health, business communication, and the social sector. Postgraduate study in acting, directing, drama education, and theatre practice is available for those who wish to develop their expertise further.
