BEng Aerospace Engineering (Sandwich)
About this course
Aerospace engineering sits at the very frontier of what human technology can achieve. The design and development of commercial aircraft, helicopters, spacecraft, and unmanned aerial vehicles brings together aerodynamics, structural engineering, propulsion, materials science, avionics, and systems engineering in combinations that push the boundaries of what is physically possible. Aerospace engineers are also increasingly central to the transition to sustainable aviation, working on alternative propulsion systems, noise reduction, and the minimisation of environmental impact, challenges that will define the industry for the coming generation. At Queen's University Belfast, this four-year full-time BEng degree includes a sandwich year in industry, providing direct professional experience in an aerospace or engineering organisation. You will study the scientific principles and engineering techniques that underpin the design, development, and service of aerospace systems, developing expertise in aerodynamics, structures, propulsion, and systems integration alongside the quantitative and computational tools that modern engineering demands. Belfast's strong aerospace industry base, with major employers including Bombardier and Spirit AeroSystems, means the degree is closely connected to real industrial practice. The typical entry tariff is 136 UCAS points. Graduates of aerospace engineering programmes are employed in civil and military aviation, spacecraft development, unmanned systems, defence, and increasingly in adjacent high-technology sectors. The technical versatility that aerospace engineering develops, combining deep knowledge of aerodynamics, structures, and systems, means graduates are attractive to employers across the high-technology engineering sector more broadly. Many graduates pursue professional accreditation toward Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status and others go on to postgraduate research in aerodynamics, propulsion, structures, or sustainable aviation technology.
