BEng Aerospace Engineering
About this course
Aerospace engineering is one of the most technically demanding and creatively rich of all engineering disciplines. It encompasses the design, development, testing, and manufacture of aircraft and spacecraft, drawing on aerodynamics, structural mechanics, propulsion, avionics, and materials science to solve some of the most complex engineering problems humanity has ever attempted. The industry it serves, encompassing commercial aviation, defence, and space exploration, is dynamic and constantly evolving, offering engineers the opportunity to work on systems that genuinely push the boundaries of what is technically possible. At the University of Surrey, this three-year full-time degree gives you all the skills and knowledge you need to launch your aerospace engineering career, with opportunities in dynamic, evolving industries including space, aerospace, automotive, technology, transport, and renewable energy. You will develop a rigorous foundation in engineering mathematics and physics alongside the specific disciplines of aeronautics and astronautics: fluid mechanics and aerodynamics, structural analysis, propulsion systems, control systems, and spacecraft design. The programme develops both your analytical and practical engineering skills, preparing you for the technical and project-based demands of the profession. Entry typically requires around 136 UCAS tariff points. Aerospace engineering graduates work in aircraft and spacecraft design and manufacturing, airline operations, defence, space agencies, consultancy, and related high-technology sectors. The analytical and engineering skills the degree develops are also transferable into automotive, energy, and technology industries. Many graduates continue to postgraduate study or pursue Chartered Engineer status through the Royal Aeronautical Society or other professional bodies.
