About this course

Animation is a discipline that sits at the crossroads of visual art, storytelling, and digital technology. It encompasses a wide range of techniques, from traditional hand-drawn and stop-motion methods to computer-generated imagery, motion graphics, and immersive digital environments. What unites them is the animator's fundamental task: to create the illusion of movement and to use it in the service of narrative, expression, or communication. The skills involved are simultaneously technical and creative, requiring both precision in execution and imagination in conception. At Wrexham University this part-time programme includes a foundation year, giving you the preparation needed to build your technical skills and creative confidence before progressing into the main degree. You will explore a range of animation techniques, developing your understanding of timing, movement, character, and visual storytelling, as well as the digital tools and workflows used across the animation industry. The programme encourages you to experiment and develop a personal creative approach, moving from initial concept through to finished screen work.
