Applied biosciences is a discipline that takes the science of living systems and asks how it can be put to work, connecting fundamental knowledge of cells, molecules, and organisms to real-world questions in human health, disease, agriculture, biotechnology, and environmental science. At Coventry University, you can study applied biosciences on a part-time basis, allowing you to work towards a degree in the life sciences while managing other personal or professional commitments. You will study across a range of biological scales, from biochemistry and cell biology to organ systems, physiology, and ecology, developing both the conceptual foundations and the practical laboratory skills that characterise the biosciences. The applied focus of the programme means you will regularly engage with the contexts in which biological knowledge matters, from healthcare and pharmaceuticals to food science and environmental management. The programme includes a sandwich placement year and work placement opportunities, ensuring that you develop substantial professional experience alongside your academic study, as well as a year abroad that broadens your scientific perspective internationally. Graduates of applied biosciences find careers in pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, NHS laboratories, research organisations, public health agencies, food and environmental science, and education.
