About this course

Artificial intelligence in human resources is a degree designed for a moment of genuine transformation in the workplace. The integration of AI into HR practice is moving rapidly, reshaping how organisations recruit, onboard, assess performance, develop talent, and manage compliance. Understanding both the capabilities and the limitations of AI in this context, and the ethical, legal, and organisational questions it raises, is becoming essential for HR professionals who want to lead rather than simply adapt. At the University of Derby, this three-year, full-time programme includes a foundation year and positions you at the forefront of this emerging field. You will develop knowledge of human resource management principles, including recruitment, employment law, performance management, and organisational behaviour, alongside an understanding of how AI and data-driven tools are being applied in these areas. You will engage with the ethical and governance questions that arise when algorithms make or inform decisions about people's working lives, and develop the critical and practical skills to implement and evaluate AI-enabled HR processes responsibly. A year abroad option is available, broadening your exposure to how different organisations and cultures are approaching AI in HR. Graduates are well-placed for careers in HR departments that are actively integrating AI into their processes, in HR technology companies, in consultancies advising on HR transformation, and in roles concerned with the ethics and governance of AI in the workplace. The combination of HR expertise and AI literacy the degree develops is genuinely scarce and likely to become more rather than less valuable as the integration of AI into organisational life continues. Many graduates also continue to postgraduate study in HRM, organisational behaviour, or data ethics.
