BSc Banking and Finance with foundation year
About this course
Banking and finance is a field concerned with the institutions, markets, and instruments through which capital is allocated, risk is managed, and value is created in modern economies. From retail banking and consumer credit to investment banking, asset management, and international capital markets, the financial system underpins economic activity at every scale. Understanding how it works, how it is regulated, and how financial decisions are made by banks, corporations, and investors is both intellectually demanding and practically valuable in a world where financial services is one of the UK's most important industries. At Coventry University this four-year full-time programme includes a foundation year, providing additional academic and mathematical preparation for students who would benefit from a more gradual entry into degree-level study. The foundation year builds the quantitative and analytical skills needed for the main degree. Across the programme you will develop knowledge and skills that could help you pursue roles in investment banking, private banking, retail banking, and compliance and risk management. A sandwich year and a year abroad are incorporated into the degree, and a work placement is integrated, giving you substantial professional experience in a financial services environment alongside your studies. Graduates in banking and finance are well placed for careers in retail, commercial, and investment banking, asset management, financial analysis, insurance, and risk and compliance. The combination of technical financial knowledge and real professional experience this programme provides is valued by employers across the financial services sector. Many graduates also continue to professional qualifications such as the CFA or ACCA, or pursue postgraduate study in finance, financial risk, or economics. The global nature of the financial industry means that the international perspective developed through the year abroad is a genuine professional advantage.
