BSc Business and Law
About this course
Business and law is a combination that reflects the reality of commercial and organisational life: businesses operate within legal frameworks, and the most effective business people understand the legal constraints and opportunities that shape what organisations can do. Law provides the analytical framework for understanding rights, obligations, contracts, and the regulatory environment in which businesses operate. Business studies provides the strategic, financial, and operational knowledge needed to run and develop organisations effectively. Studied together, they produce graduates who can think both commercially and legally, a combination that is genuinely distinctive and highly valued. At Roehampton University, this three-year full-time programme helps you develop and integrate both business and legal perspectives, building the capacity to make effective decisions in contemporary organisations where legal and commercial considerations are constantly intertwined. You will study core business disciplines, including strategy, finance, marketing, and human resource management, alongside key areas of English law such as contract, tort, employment law, company law, and commercial law. The programme is available with a foundation year for students who need additional academic preparation, making it accessible to a wider range of backgrounds. It also includes a sandwich year and work placement opportunities, meaning you will gain direct professional experience in business or legal settings before you graduate, developing the practical judgment and professional confidence that employers value. You will develop strong analytical skills, the ability to identify and manage legal risk, and the commercial awareness that effective management requires. Graduates go on to careers in management, compliance, human resources, commercial roles, legal support, business consultancy, and a wide range of roles in the public and private sectors. Many pursue professional development through the Chartered Management Institute or further legal qualifications. Postgraduate study in law, business, or management is a natural continuation.
