BSc Business Economics
About this course
Business economics applies the tools of economic analysis to the challenges and decisions facing firms and markets. Where general economics often operates at the level of whole economies and abstract models, business economics narrows its focus to the resource allocation problems that organisations actually face: how to price products, how to respond to competitors, how to assess investment opportunities, and how to navigate the regulatory and macroeconomic environments in which firms operate. It equips you to think rigorously about decision-making under uncertainty and to develop solutions that are grounded in economic reasoning rather than guesswork. At Aberystwyth University, this three-year full-time programme trains you to develop effective business solutions using practical economic knowledge. You will build an in-depth understanding of the economic factors that influence business success, including market structures, pricing theory, incentives, costs and the macroeconomic conditions that affect firm performance. Alongside the economics content, the degree develops your analytical, problem-solving and communication skills, preparing you for roles that require both conceptual clarity and the ability to present your thinking persuasively. The programme is designed to be relevant to the private sector, the public sector and the growing range of organisations that sit between them. Graduates from business economics programmes pursue careers across finance, consulting, economic analysis, marketing, policy and management. Many enter roles as business analysts, economic advisers, market research analysts, financial analysts and strategy consultants. The combination of economic rigour and business awareness is valued by a wide range of employers, from professional services firms and financial institutions to government departments and international organisations. Many graduates go on to postgraduate study in economics, business, finance or management, deepening their expertise and opening doors to more senior analytical and leadership roles.
