BA Business Enterprise and Finance
About this course
Business enterprise and finance is a combination that addresses both the creation of new commercial ventures and the financial understanding that any serious business activity demands. Entrepreneurship requires vision, resilience and the ability to build and test new ideas; finance provides the tools to assess viability, manage resources and communicate value to investors and partners. At the University of Strathclyde, this four-year full-time degree integrates both, producing graduates who can think like entrepreneurs and reason like financiers, a combination that is valuable in startups, established businesses and the investment organisations that fund them. A year abroad is built into the programme, adding an international dimension to both the commercial and financial learning. The enterprise strand focuses on how new ventures are created and sustained, covering business model design, opportunity identification, innovation management, marketing and the challenges of taking an idea from concept to viable organisation. The finance component develops your understanding of financial markets, corporate finance, investment appraisal, risk management and the financial reporting systems that businesses and investors rely on. Strathclyde's business school has a strong reputation for practical, industry-connected teaching, and the programme develops both analytical rigour and the entrepreneurial mindset that applied business education at its best should produce. A typical entry tariff of around 216 points is expected. Graduates from this combination enter careers in entrepreneurship, corporate finance, investment, venture capital, financial consulting, commercial management and business development. The dual competence in enterprise thinking and financial analysis is valued across a wide spectrum of organisations, from early-stage startups seeking their first funding to established firms managing complex capital structures. Many graduates also proceed to postgraduate study in finance, MBA programmes or specialist master's degrees in entrepreneurship or investment.
