MA Business Management and Psychology
About this course
Business management and psychology is a pairing that addresses both the institutional structures through which organisations function and the human beings whose behaviour, motivation and wellbeing determine how effectively those structures work. Business management examines strategy, finance, marketing, operations and the frameworks for leading organisations and making decisions in competitive environments. Psychology provides the empirical and theoretical tools for understanding how people think, feel and behave, including the dimensions most directly relevant to working life: motivation, group dynamics, leadership effectiveness, decision-making under uncertainty and the conditions that support performance and wellbeing. At the University of Aberdeen you will study across four years of full-time study, including a year abroad that broadens your perspective on management and organisational behaviour across different national and cultural contexts. You will develop a rigorous understanding of both individual psychology and organisational dynamics, gaining in-depth knowledge of how people behave as part of a workforce and how management practice shapes that behaviour. The combination prepares you both for professional careers and for further specialist study. Graduates in business management and psychology work in human resources, organisational development, people analytics, management consulting, talent management, learning and development, occupational health and general management roles across every sector of the economy. The combination of commercial understanding and psychological insight is particularly valued by organisations that take evidence-based people management seriously. Many graduates pursue professional qualifications in HR or management, or go on to postgraduate study in organisational psychology, occupational psychology, human resource management or MBA programmes, building on the dual foundation the degree provides.
