BA Business Studies and Film & Media
About this course
Business studies and film and media is a degree that brings together two very different but increasingly connected fields. Business studies provides the analytical and strategic frameworks through which commercial organisations are understood and managed, covering finance, marketing, operations, strategy, and the commercial environments that shape business decisions. Film and media studies examines one of the most culturally pervasive and economically significant sectors in the contemporary world, analysing how films and media texts are produced, distributed, and consumed, and what they mean within the cultures and industries that generate them. At the University of Stirling, this four-year, full-time degree gives you a grounding in both disciplines, developing commercial and analytical awareness alongside critical and interpretive skills in the study of film and media. A year abroad is incorporated into the programme, giving you the opportunity to study in a different national and cultural context, which is particularly enriching for a combination that addresses both global commerce and global media culture. A typical entry tariff of 184 points reflects the academic standard of this programme. Graduates are well placed for careers in the media and creative industries, including roles in film and television production, distribution, marketing, media management, entertainment business, digital content strategy, and communications. The business studies component is particularly valuable for those who want to understand the commercial realities of the industries they work in, or to move into management, strategy, or entrepreneurial roles within the creative economy. Postgraduate study in film, media management, cultural industries, or business is a common next step.
