BA Business Studies and Finance
About this course
Business studies provides the broad understanding of how organisations function across their core disciplines, from strategy and marketing to operations, human resources and finance. Combined with finance, it adds the quantitative and analytical depth needed to understand how capital is raised and allocated, how financial markets work, and how organisations measure and manage their financial performance. Together, the pairing gives you a well-rounded preparation for careers in both the commercial and financial sectors, with the depth in finance to pursue professional qualifications and the breadth in business to operate across different organisational contexts. At the University of Stirling, this four-year full-time programme develops your understanding of business strategy, management, accounting and financial principles in a learning environment known for close contact between students and staff. You will study organisational behaviour, marketing, financial management, investment theory and the macroeconomic context in which firms operate. The course includes a year abroad, giving you the chance to study business and finance in an international context and to develop the global perspective that employers in finance and management increasingly look for. Graduates from business studies and finance degrees pursue careers in financial services, investment and wealth management, banking, accounting and audit, corporate finance, business development and management consultancy. Stirling graduates enter a job market where the combination of business breadth and financial depth is consistently valued. Many pursue professional qualifications in accountancy or finance as a natural next step, while others go on to postgraduate study in business, finance or specialist areas such as financial risk management or international business.
