BSc Business Studies and Law
About this course
Business studies and law is a degree that prepares you for a world in which commercial organisations operate within complex legal and regulatory frameworks, and in which successful business professionals need to understand the rules that govern what they can and cannot do. Business studies gives you the strategic, operational, and financial knowledge to understand how organisations work. Law gives you the analytical precision and doctrinal knowledge to understand the legal environment in which they operate. Together the two disciplines produce graduates who can think both commercially and legally about real-world challenges. At Bradford this three-year full-time programme is available with a foundation year, making it accessible to students who benefit from additional academic preparation before the main degree. You will study across the core disciplines of business management alongside the principles of commercial and company law, contract law, employment law, and the regulatory frameworks relevant to business activity. The law component introduces you to legal reasoning and the ability to interpret statutes and case law, while the business component develops your understanding of strategy, marketing, finance, and management. Business placements, available in a wide variety of private, public, and not-for-profit organisations, including internationally, provide valuable practical exposure to how business and legal concepts operate in the workplace. Graduates of business studies and law find their combination of skills valued across a wide range of careers. Commercial law firms recruit graduates who combine legal knowledge with business understanding. Legal departments in corporations, financial institutions, and public sector bodies value the dual training. Many graduates also move into general management, consultancy, compliance, and business development roles where the ability to navigate legal and commercial complexity is an asset. Postgraduate study in law, business administration, or commercial subjects is a natural continuation for those who wish to specialise.
