Chemistry is the central science, connecting the physical sciences to biology, medicine, materials, and the environment. It is the study of matter: its structure, properties, and the transformations it undergoes in chemical reactions. Chemists work at scales from the subatomic, determining how electrons govern reactivity, to the industrial, designing processes that produce fuels, pharmaceuticals, and materials at enormous scale. At the University of Durham, this four-year full-time programme is offered as Chemistry via the International Route, a structure that incorporates extended international academic content and a sandwich placement year with a work placement.
