About this course

Construction management is the discipline concerned with planning, organising, directing and controlling the people, resources and processes that deliver built environment projects. From housing developments and schools to hospitals, commercial buildings and major infrastructure, every construction project requires managers who can coordinate teams, manage budgets and programmes, maintain quality and safety, and navigate the contractual and procurement frameworks that govern the industry. It is a profession that combines technical knowledge with leadership, commercial awareness and the ability to problem-solve under pressure. At Leeds Beckett University you will study this three-year full-time programme, which includes a sandwich placement year, a year abroad and embedded work placement opportunities. The sandwich year connects your academic study to real construction project environments, giving you the professional experience that employers consistently regard as the single most valuable preparation for a management career in the industry. The year abroad offers an opportunity to understand how construction and project management are practised in different national contexts, which is increasingly relevant in a globalised construction market. The typical entry tariff is around 104 UCAS points. You will develop expertise in project management methodology, construction technology, procurement and contract management, cost management, health and safety, sustainability in construction and the leadership skills needed to manage diverse teams under commercial and time pressure. The programme places strong emphasis on industry engagement and the development of the professional skills needed to progress quickly in a construction career. Graduates of construction management programmes work for major contractors, specialist subcontractors, client organisations, project management consultancies and local authorities. Roles in site management, project management, quantity surveying, contract management and commercial management are all well-established destinations. Many graduates pursue professional chartership through the Chartered Institute of Building. Postgraduate study in construction law, project management or built environment sustainability is a further option.
