BA Curating
About this course
Curating is the professional practice of selecting, organising, interpreting, and presenting art and cultural objects for public audiences. It encompasses not only decisions about what to exhibit and how, but the research, writing, relationship-building, and project management that bring exhibitions and public programmes to life. Curating has expanded well beyond the traditional museum and gallery context: curators now work across digital platforms, public spaces, community settings, and commercial environments, making the discipline broader and more socially significant than ever. The three-year full-time Curating degree at Goldsmiths College supports you in developing a wide set of curatorial skills over three years of close mentoring by course staff and practising curators. You will work on a variety of assignments that encourage critical thinking and confident research, and that develop your ability to shape curatorial projects and communicate your work to a wide variety of audiences. Goldsmiths' distinctive intellectual culture, with its emphasis on critical theory, social engagement, and artistic practice, runs through the programme and gives curating a particular conceptual depth at this institution. The London location provides immediate access to one of the world's greatest concentrations of galleries, museums, and art institutions, many of which are actively engaged with Goldsmiths' students and alumni. With a typical entry tariff of 136 points, the programme attracts students who bring both creative passion and the intellectual rigor to think critically about art, culture, and institutions. Graduates pursue careers as curators, exhibition producers, gallery managers, art administrators, arts programme coordinators, and in roles across the wider cultural and creative economy. Many also go on to postgraduate study in curating, museum studies, or critical theory.
