About this course

Cyber security is the discipline concerned with protecting computer systems, networks, data, and digital infrastructure from attack, misuse, and unauthorised access. As economies and critical services become ever more dependent on digital systems, the ability to identify vulnerabilities, respond to incidents, and design secure systems has become one of the most urgently needed technical skills in the world. The field encompasses network security, cryptography, ethical hacking, incident response, threat intelligence, and the governance frameworks that underpin organisational security posture. At Wrexham University, this part-time programme includes a foundation year, a sandwich year, and a work placement component, making it well structured for students who need flexibility alongside their studies and who benefit from substantial professional experience as part of their education. The programme includes access to the university's Cyber Innovation Academy, a dedicated facility with advanced technology for realistic practice on the kinds of threats and defences that professional cybersecurity teams encounter. You will develop skills in network analysis, penetration testing, security operations, digital forensics, and the technical and procedural responses to cyber incidents. Roles in security operations, penetration testing, incident response, vulnerability management, security consultancy, digital forensics, and governance risk and compliance are common destinations.
