BA Dance and Education
About this course
Dance and Education is a combination that links the embodied creative practice of dance with the academic and professional study of how people learn and how educational environments can be designed to support all learners. Dance as a discipline develops your physical and creative capacities through performance and choreography, asking you to express ideas through movement and to develop a distinctive artistic voice. Education as a field examines how learning happens, how it is facilitated and how institutional and social contexts shape educational experience. Studied together, they prepare you for careers that bridge creative practice and educational work. At Liverpool Hope University this three-year full-time degree develops your skills as a dance practitioner alongside your understanding of educational theory and practice. You will develop your choreographic and performance abilities through a range of techniques and approaches, fostering creativity and a reflective practice. Your education studies will engage you with the theory and policy of education, developing your understanding of how children, young people and adults learn. The programme includes a sandwich year, a year abroad and a work placement, giving you substantial professional and international experience alongside your creative and academic studies. Graduates from Dance and Education degrees go on to careers that connect creative practice with teaching and facilitation. Many find roles as dance educators in schools, community settings, arts organisations and independent teaching practices. Others work as creative practitioners in community dance, arts in health, youth work and theatre in education. The programme also provides a foundation for those wishing to go on to qualified teacher training, or to develop postgraduate study in dance, education, arts therapy or community arts practice.
