BSc Digital Design with a Year Abroad
About this course
Digital design is the discipline concerned with creating visual and interactive experiences for screens, devices, and digital environments. It combines aesthetic sensibility with technical capability, asking designers to think about how something looks, how it works, and how users will experience it over time. As technology reshapes every aspect of creative production, digital designers need to understand both the craft of visual communication and the logic of the systems they are designing for, from responsive web interfaces to interactive installations and motion graphics. At Kent this four-year full-time programme weaves together theory and practice, encouraging you to approach design challenges analytically as well as creatively. You will work with the tools and technologies that shape the modern design landscape, building skills in areas such as interface design, user experience, motion, and interactive digital media. The programme emphasises critical thinking alongside making: you will learn to research design problems thoroughly, prototype and test solutions, and reflect on the social and cultural contexts in which digital design operates. The degree is aligned with the creative industries, so the skills you develop are grounded in what employers and clients actually need from designers working at the intersection of creativity and technology. Note that although the title references a year abroad, the course data indicates this feature is not included in the current version of the programme. Please check directly with Kent for the latest course structure. Graduates move into roles including UX and UI design, web design and development, motion graphics, digital art direction, interactive media production, and brand identity work for digital channels. The breadth of the programme also prepares you well for the fast-changing landscape of content creation, game design, and immersive media. Many graduates also continue to postgraduate study in design, human-computer interaction, or creative technology.
