BA Digital Marketing (including a Foundation Year)
About this course
Digital marketing is one of the most rapidly evolving fields in business, encompassing the strategies and tools through which organisations reach, engage and convert customers in online and digital environments. It includes search engine optimisation, paid search and social advertising, content marketing, email marketing, influencer marketing, analytics and the use of customer data to personalise and improve marketing performance. As consumer behaviour continues to shift towards digital channels and platforms, the demand for marketers who understand how to operate in this environment has grown significantly across every sector. At the University of Chester this four-year programme begins with a foundation year, providing the academic grounding and practical orientation you need before the degree begins. The foundation year is open to students who have the motivation and commercial curiosity to succeed in digital marketing but may not have the A-level profile that direct entry requires. Once you move into the degree itself you will study the core disciplines of marketing alongside the digital-specific knowledge of SEO, social media strategy, data analytics, user experience, content creation and digital campaign management. You will develop practical skills in the tools and platforms that digital marketers use daily, alongside the strategic and analytical thinking that makes those tools effective. The programme includes a year abroad, giving you an international perspective on digital marketing practice. Digital marketing graduates are in strong demand from a wide range of employers. Agencies, technology companies, e-commerce businesses, media organisations, charities and public sector bodies all need people who can develop and execute effective digital marketing strategies. Roles in SEO, social media management, PPC, content strategy, digital analytics, email marketing and account management are all accessible, as is the general commercial landscape where digital marketing skills are increasingly expected in broader management and communications roles. Many graduates continue to postgraduate study or professional qualifications in marketing or business. The foundation year route makes this a genuinely open pathway.
