BSc Digital Media and Creative Computing
About this course
Digital media and creative computing occupies a distinctive space at the intersection of technical computing and creative practice. It is a discipline for people who want to understand both how digital systems are built and how they can be used to create, communicate and express. From interactive installations and data visualisations to digital storytelling, game design, web applications and experimental interfaces, the field encompasses a remarkable range of creative and technical possibilities. The University of East Anglia offers this three-year full-time programme, developing programming and computational thinking alongside creative and critical engagement with digital media in all its forms. You will develop technical skills in web development, programming, data handling and interactive design alongside analytical and conceptual thinking about how digital media shapes communication, culture and experience. The degree takes both the making and the critical understanding of digital media seriously, recognising that the most interesting work in this space requires people who can both create and interrogate. UEA's creative traditions, including its strong reputation in the arts and humanities, inform the character of the programme and give it a richness that purely technical programmes of this kind sometimes lack. The degree develops technical capability, creative problem-solving, the ability to prototype and iterate, critical thinking about digital culture and the communication skills to explain and present digital work to different audiences. These are capabilities that are in demand in a wide range of creative and technology contexts. Graduates pursue careers in digital agencies, web development, UX and product design, game development, interactive media, digital arts, broadcasting, marketing technology and a wide range of creative technology roles. The combination of creative and technical skills also positions graduates well for roles in the growing sector of digital humanities, cultural institutions engaging with digital transformation, and technology start-ups working in creative fields. Postgraduate study in creative computing, digital media, interaction design or related fields is a natural option.
