BA Digital Media
About this course
Digital media is the discipline concerned with the creation, distribution and analysis of content for digital platforms, combining creative production skills with an understanding of the tools, technologies and audience dynamics that shape digital communication. It is a field that encompasses video production and editing, audio and podcasting, web content, social media, animation and interactive media, asking you to develop both the technical capabilities to make digital work and the conceptual understanding to make it meaningful and effective. In a world where digital content is the dominant form of communication for organisations, communities and individuals, these skills are in demand across virtually every sector. At Coventry University this three-year, full-time programme develops your skills in digital storytelling through video, sound and web, teaching you how content is designed to move, connect and engage audiences across the digital landscape. You will work with industry-standard production tools and platforms, developing practical capabilities in filming, editing, audio production, motion graphics and web design, alongside the critical and theoretical understanding to make purposeful creative decisions. The programme includes a sandwich year, a year abroad and work placements, giving you direct professional experience in media or communications organisations and an international perspective on the digital media landscape before graduation. Graduates of digital media programmes pursue careers in video production and editing, content creation, social media management, digital marketing, audio production, web development, broadcasting, journalism, public relations, corporate communications and the broader creative and media industries. Many work as freelancers or build independent production practices, while others join agencies, broadcasters, technology companies or in-house communications teams. Some graduates continue to postgraduate study in digital media, journalism, film or communications, and others move into education, arts management or the technical side of media production.
