About this course
Drama is one of the oldest of the arts, and one of the most alive. It is the study and practice of how stories are told through performance, encompassing the work of actors, directors, writers, and makers who create live experiences for audiences. The discipline asks how theatre communicates, how performance is shaped by its cultural and historical moment, and what it means to inhabit a character, construct a scene, or bring a script to life on stage or screen. At the University of Chester, this three-year full-time degree is designed for students who want to develop their practice and knowledge at a professional level, whether as performers, directors, writers, or creative collaborators. You will work with expert tutors to explore a range of performance approaches, critical frameworks, and research methods, building both practical ability and theoretical understanding. The programme covers acting, directing, and script writing, and explores how technology intersects with performance in contemporary practice, preparing you for a creative landscape in which the boundaries between stage, screen, and other media are increasingly fluid. The programme includes a year abroad option, giving you the opportunity to experience drama and performance in an international context. The typical entry tariff is 120 UCAS points. Graduates of drama programmes work across theatre, film, television, radio, digital media, arts administration, education, and community arts.
