BA Economics
About this course
Economics is the study of how individuals, firms, and societies make decisions about the allocation of scarce resources. It is a discipline of remarkable intellectual breadth, encompassing both the formal rigour of mathematical modelling and the real-world complexity of markets, institutions, and human behaviour. From the microeconomics of household and firm decisions to the macroeconomics of national income, inflation, and trade, economics provides powerful analytical tools for understanding the world and evaluating policy. At Liverpool Hope this three-year full-time degree gives you a grounding in both microeconomic and macroeconomic analysis. You will study supply and demand, market failures, market structure, factor markets, and income inequality alongside macroeconomic topics including GDP measurement, unemployment, inflation, economic growth, exchange rates, international trade, and fiscal and monetary policy. The programme includes a sandwich year providing substantial professional experience, a year abroad that allows you to engage with economics in an international context, and work placement opportunities, all of which enrich your academic learning with direct professional exposure. The typical entry tariff of 88 points reflects an inclusive approach to admissions. Economics graduates go on to careers in banking, finance, the civil service, economic consultancy, public policy, international development, business, and journalism. The analytical and quantitative skills that economics develops are among the most widely valued in the graduate labour market, and they transfer well across sectors from technology and healthcare to education and the arts. Many graduates also continue to postgraduate study in economics, finance, public policy, or related fields, developing specialist expertise in areas such as behavioural economics, development economics, or financial regulation.
