BSc Economics
About this course
Economics is the study of choice: how individuals, households, firms, and governments make decisions under conditions of scarcity, and what the consequences of those decisions are for markets, institutions, and societies. It combines theoretical model-building with empirical analysis, using mathematical and statistical tools to test intuitions about human behaviour and to evaluate the effects of policies. At its best, economics provides a rigorous and scientifically grounded framework for thinking about some of the most important questions in public and commercial life. At the University of Warwick, one of the world's leading economics departments, this three-year full-time programme offers research-led teaching in which you learn directly from scholars who are shaping the field. You will study microeconomics, macroeconomics, and econometrics alongside more specialised areas of the discipline, developing both the theoretical fluency and the quantitative skills that professional economists need. The programme includes a year abroad, giving you the opportunity to study economics in a different academic tradition and to develop the international perspective that is increasingly important in a globalised world. Warwick's emphasis on rigour and research means that the degree prepares you not just for employment but for the most demanding graduate programmes in economics and related fields. Economics graduates from leading programmes like Warwick's are among the most sought-after of any discipline. Careers in financial services, economic consulting, central banking, government analytical work, international organisations, and academic research are all well within reach. The quantitative skills the degree develops are highly valued in data science, finance, and any role that requires understanding and working with complex data. Postgraduate study in economics, finance, public policy, or data science is a natural next step for those who wish to specialise further or pursue research careers.
