BA Economics with Marketing
About this course
Economics with marketing brings together two disciplines that, when studied in combination, give you an unusually complete picture of how markets work and how organisations within them succeed. Economics provides the theoretical and analytical tools to understand how prices are determined, how firms compete, how consumers make decisions, and how policy shapes economic outcomes. Marketing translates that understanding into practice, showing how organisations identify what people want and communicate why they should choose their product or service. At Goldsmiths, University of London this three-year full-time programme develops both strands with the critical and interdisciplinary approach that characterises Goldsmiths as an institution. Economics at Goldsmiths takes seriously the social and political contexts in which economic activity takes place, engaging with questions about inequality, globalisation, and the limits of market mechanisms alongside more technical microeconomic and macroeconomic analysis. The marketing strand covers consumer behaviour, brand management, digital marketing, and research methods, applying economic thinking to the practical challenges of reaching and understanding markets. You will develop quantitative skills in economic analysis alongside the analytical and creative thinking that effective marketing requires, and you will write and communicate with precision about economic and commercial questions. Graduates go on to careers in marketing, advertising, market research, financial services, economic consultancy, policy analysis, government, and business management. The combination of economic rigour and marketing application is valued across a wide range of sectors. Many graduates also continue to postgraduate study in economics, marketing, business, or data analytics, and the quantitative skills developed in economics provide a strong basis for further technical study.
