English and creative writing combined with human resource management is an unusual but thoughtfully constructed degree. English and creative writing develops your capacity to read carefully, think critically, and write with range and skill, whether you are analysing a novel, writing a short story, or exploring the craft of poetry and non-fiction. Human resource management is the study of how people are led, developed, and supported within organisations, encompassing employment relations, talent management, organisational behaviour, and the legal and ethical frameworks governing work. The connection between the two is less obvious than it might seem, but what unites them is attention to people: one through creative and critical understanding, the other through organisational practice. At the University of Strathclyde, this four-year, full-time degree gives you a genuinely strong grounding in each. You will study English literature and creative writing in a programme that is described as innovative and modern, grounded in close reading of the literary tradition while encouraging you to develop your own creative voice across a range of forms and genres. Alongside this, you will study HRM, covering core topics such as resourcing, learning and development, reward, employment law, and organisational psychology. Strathclyde's business school provides the HR component with professional rigour and applied relevance.
