BA Esports
About this course
Esports has emerged as one of the fastest-growing sectors in entertainment and media, with competitive video gaming attracting tens of millions of viewers, professional leagues with substantial prize funds, and a surrounding ecosystem of broadcasting, content creation, sponsorship, event management, and marketing that mirrors and in some ways exceeds traditional sports. Understanding this industry requires both familiarity with the gaming world and a solid grasp of the commercial, creative, and technological forces that drive it. This three-year, full-time programme places you at the centre of this dynamic field, combining academic study with hands-on experience in the areas that make esports function as a business and a spectator experience. You will explore digital broadcasting and streaming, content creation, event production, brand partnerships, and audience engagement, developing a practical understanding of how esports organisations operate across multiple revenue streams. The course includes a placement year, which gives you the opportunity to gain professional experience within the industry before you graduate, building contacts and real-world skills alongside your academic work. Graduates are well positioned for careers across the esports ecosystem, including roles in event management, content production, social media and marketing, community management, broadcasting, and commercial partnerships. The skills you develop are also applicable in broader sectors such as sports media, digital marketing, live entertainment, and gaming companies. Many roles in this industry are relatively new and continue to evolve rapidly, which means graduates who understand both the cultural context and the business mechanics of esports are well placed to shape how the sector develops. Further study in sports management, media production, or business is also a route taken by graduates who wish to broaden their options.
