BA Fashion Design with Fashion and Design Foundation
About this course
Fashion design is the creative and technical discipline concerned with conceiving, developing and producing clothing and accessories that respond to the needs, desires and identities of those who wear them. It brings together drawing and visual thinking, materials knowledge, pattern cutting, garment construction, trend awareness and an understanding of the consumer, the market and the cultural moment. Fashion is a global industry of considerable scale and complexity, and designers who can work across all of these dimensions, from initial concept through to a finished, commercially viable collection, are the ones who succeed in it. At Regent's University London, this four-year full-time programme includes a Fashion and Design foundation year alongside a year abroad, giving you both the foundational preparation for degree-level creative study and the international perspective that the global fashion industry demands. From sketching and prototyping through to construction and branding, you will learn to design and create marketable collections that combine your personal aesthetic vision with a real understanding of the consumer. The programme grounds your creative experimentation in customer research and engagement, ensuring that your designs are not just original but viable. London's position as one of the world's leading fashion capitals gives you direct access to the industry throughout your studies, from shows and exhibitions to studio visits and professional networks. Graduates of fashion design programmes go on to careers as fashion designers, pattern cutters, garment technologists, fashion buyers, stylists, textile designers, fashion journalists and brand consultants, working across designer labels, high street retailers, sportswear brands, costume and theatrical production, and independent practice. Further study in fashion design, fashion management, textile design or costume is an option for those who want to develop a specific area of specialism or move into fashion education.
