BA Fashion Management
About this course
Fashion management brings together two things that might seem to pull in opposite directions: the creativity and cultural energy of the fashion industry, and the commercial logic that determines whether that creativity reaches an audience and generates a sustainable business. In practice, the two are inseparable. Successful fashion businesses depend on people who understand how collections are bought and sold, how supply chains are organised, how brands are built and communicated, and how consumer trends are identified and responded to. This four-year full-time degree at Robert Gordon University integrates management theory with the practical realities of the global fashion industry. You will study fashion buying, production, marketing and merchandising, building an understanding of how different functions within a fashion business connect and depend on one another. The programme treats the industry seriously as a business context, examining how brands operate across international markets, how sustainability pressures are reshaping production and sourcing decisions, and how digital channels have transformed the relationship between brands and consumers. A sandwich year gives you the opportunity to gain professional experience in an industry placement, and a year abroad combined with a work placement means you will graduate with both international perspective and direct commercial exposure. The structural features of this programme reflect the genuinely global nature of the fashion industry and prepare you for roles that increasingly require both cultural fluency and commercial acumen. Graduates pursue careers in fashion buying, merchandising, brand management, retail management, product development and marketing across fashion brands, retailers and media companies. Some move into consultancy, sustainability roles or digital commerce, while others choose to build on their studies at postgraduate level in fashion business, marketing or management.
