About this course

Fashion marketing sits at the intersection of one of the world's most culturally visible industries and the commercial discipline of marketing, which is concerned with how products and brands connect with consumers, create desire, and build lasting relationships. Fashion is distinctive as an industry because its products are not purely functional: they carry symbolic weight, communicate identity and status, and move through cycles of trend and obsolescence that create unique challenges for marketers. Understanding how fashion brands position themselves, how consumers engage with clothing and accessories as cultural objects, and how digital platforms have transformed the relationship between brands and audiences is the central concern of this field. The University of Huddersfield's three-year full-time Fashion Marketing programme develops both the marketing foundations you need and the fashion-specific knowledge that makes those foundations useful in this particular sector. You will study consumer behaviour, brand management, marketing communications, digital marketing, retail strategy, buying and merchandising, and the creative and analytical skills that fashion marketing demands. The programme includes a sandwich year and a work placement, which are central to its value: the fashion industry is competitive and relationship-driven, and the professional experience you gain in a placement year, whether with a retailer, brand, agency, or fashion media organisation, is often the single most important factor in your employability after graduation. You will develop a portfolio of applied marketing work alongside your academic qualifications, demonstrating your ability to translate theory into practice. Graduates pursue careers in fashion marketing, brand management, buying, merchandising, retail management, social media and influencer marketing, fashion journalism, public relations, and e-commerce management across luxury, high street, and sportswear brands. Postgraduate study in fashion business or marketing is also an option for those seeking deeper specialisation.
