BA Fashion
About this course
Fashion is a discipline that sits at the intersection of creativity, culture, commerce, and craft. It is concerned with clothing as a form of expression, identity, and communication, but also as an industry that employs millions of people, shapes global supply chains, and raises urgent questions about sustainability, labour rights, and the environmental impact of production. A fashion degree develops both your creative and technical capabilities and your critical understanding of the contexts in which fashion operates. At Norwich University of the Arts this four-year, full-time programme combines creative thinking with technical skill and understanding, enabling graduates to fulfil professional ambitions across a wide variety of roles in the creative industries and beyond. You will develop your design intelligence alongside pattern cutting, garment construction, and the visual communication skills that professional fashion practice requires, working through projects that move from concept to finished garment with increasing sophistication as the programme progresses. Norwich provides a studio environment that encourages both individual creative development and an awareness of the broader industry context in which fashion is designed, produced, and consumed. Graduates of fashion go on to careers as fashion designers, fashion buyers, trend forecasters, costume designers, stylists, fashion journalists, fashion marketers, and sustainable fashion practitioners. Many work in the fashion, retail, and textile industries, while others move into costume design for theatre, film, and television, or into related roles in visual communication, branding, and the cultural sector. The creative, technical, and critical skills the programme develops are also valued in adjacent industries. Some graduates continue to postgraduate study in fashion design, fashion business, or sustainable fashion, developing specialist expertise or building towards careers in research and education.
