BA Finance and Human Resource Management
About this course
Finance and human resource management is a combination that prepares you for the two areas of business that are most directly concerned with a company's most critical assets: its money and its people. Finance equips organisations to raise capital, allocate resources, manage risk, and report their performance to investors and regulators. Human resource management is concerned with how organisations attract, develop, retain, and motivate the people on whom their success depends. Together, these disciplines offer a comprehensive perspective on how businesses function and how they can be led effectively. At the University of Strathclyde, you will study this joint degree over four years, reflecting the depth that the Scottish degree tradition supports. In the finance strand, you will explore the principles of investment and value, corporate finance and decision-making, and the analysis of financial instruments including bonds and equities. You will develop both quantitative skills and the conceptual frameworks needed to evaluate financial performance and advise on financial strategy. In the human resource management strand, you will examine how organisations design their people practices, manage workplace relations, support learning and development, and address the legal and ethical dimensions of employment. The programme includes a year abroad, giving you the opportunity to study at a partner institution in another country and to develop an international perspective on both finance and organisational practice. You will graduate with strong analytical capabilities, a grounding in both financial and organisational theory, and the professional versatility to work across a wide range of business contexts. Graduates go on to careers in corporate finance, investment, banking, financial consultancy, HR management, recruitment, and organisational development. Many pursue professional qualifications with bodies such as ACCA, CIMA, or the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. Postgraduate study in finance, human resource management, or business administration is also a well-travelled route.
