BSc Finance
About this course
Finance is the study of how capital is raised, invested, managed, and priced over time. It draws on economics, mathematics, and institutional analysis to understand how financial markets work, how firms and individuals make financial decisions, and how risk and return are balanced across different asset classes. As financial markets have become more complex and more globally integrated, the analytical and technical skills that finance education develops have become increasingly valuable across investment management, corporate treasury, banking, and financial regulation. The four-year full-time Finance programme at Loughborough University is CFA-affiliated, which means the curriculum is aligned with the Chartered Financial Analyst examination, one of the most respected professional qualifications in the global investment industry. The programme provides a strong foundation in finance theory and real-world application, developing the analytical and technical skills that employers in the finance sector value. A year abroad gives you the opportunity to study at a partner institution in another country, developing the international perspective that a career in global finance increasingly requires. You will also have the option of an additional placement period to apply what you have learned in a real working environment, which strengthens your employability significantly. With a typical entry tariff of 136 points, the programme is rigorous and suited to students with strong quantitative backgrounds. Graduates from finance programmes at Loughborough are well placed for careers in investment banking, asset management, corporate finance, financial analysis, risk management, and financial consulting. The CFA affiliation provides a clear progression route for those wishing to pursue the CFA designation after graduation, and many graduates also continue to postgraduate study in finance or financial economics.
