MA French and Management
About this course
French and management is a combination that equips you to think and work across languages and cultures while also developing the strategic and organisational competencies that modern enterprises require. At the University of St Andrews, where undergraduate study follows the four-year Scottish Honours structure, this MA (Hons) programme builds your French language skills to a high level alongside a rigorous grounding in management theory and practice. A year abroad is built into the degree, typically spent studying at a French or Francophone institution, which deepens both your linguistic fluency and your cultural understanding in a way that classroom study alone cannot replicate. In the French strand, you will develop advanced language competence through reading, writing, speaking and listening, while also studying French and Francophone literature, culture, history and contemporary society. The management strand covers organisational behaviour, strategy, marketing, finance and operations, developing a conceptual toolkit for understanding and influencing how organisations function. St Andrews brings a distinctive academic culture to both subjects, combining rigorous intellectual standards with small-group teaching and strong research connections. A typical tariff of around 232 points reflects the competitive entry standards. Graduates are well placed for careers in international management, consulting, marketing and communications for organisations with French-language operations, as well as in diplomacy, the European Union institutions, cultural industries, publishing and international NGOs. The combination of high-level French and management understanding is valued wherever organisations need people who can operate across cultural and linguistic boundaries with both commercial effectiveness and cultural sensitivity. Many graduates pursue further study, including MBA programmes, specialist master's degrees in international management or postgraduate study in French or European studies.
