BA Graphic Design
About this course
Graphic design is the discipline that shapes how visual information is communicated, from the typography and layout of a printed page to the user interface of a digital product, the identity of a brand and the motion graphics of a film title sequence. It brings together creative thinking, visual problem-solving and technical skill in the service of communication, making complex information accessible, making identities memorable and making experiences coherent. In a world saturated with visual messages, the ability to cut through with clarity and purpose is more valuable than ever. At Anglia Ruskin University, this three-year full-time programme develops your practice across the full range of contemporary graphic design, including print-based design and digital commercial practices. You will experiment with site-specific, interactive and motion graphics alongside mobile media, app design in UX and UI, web development and multimedia work, developing versatility across formats and contexts that reflects the reality of professional practice. The programme develops both your creative and critical thinking, encouraging you to understand design as a cultural and communicative practice as well as a technical skill. Graduates of graphic design programmes find employment as graphic designers, brand designers, UX and UI designers, motion designers, web designers, art directors, design consultants and creative directors across agencies, in-house design teams, publishing companies, digital product firms, advertising and independent practice. The breadth of the ARU programme, spanning print and digital, commercial and experimental, gives you flexibility to work across different sectors and specialisms. Further study in graphic design, visual communication, interaction design, illustration or design management is available for those who want to deepen a particular specialism or pursue research and academic careers.
