BA Graphic Design
About this course
Graphic design is the art and practice of visual communication: using type, image, colour, and space to convey information, build identity, and create experiences. It is one of the foundational creative disciplines of the modern world, present in every interface, publication, brand, advertisement, and public space. Good graphic design is not decoration; it is the application of visual intelligence to communication problems, and doing it well requires both creative skill and rigorous analytical thinking about audience, context, and intent. At Coventry University, this three-year full-time programme develops you as a visionary, informed, responsible and technically adaptable designer through critical thinking, practical skills, and creative exploration. The programme includes a sandwich year, a year abroad and integrated work placement opportunities, giving you a rich set of practical and international experiences that most design students do not have access to. The sandwich and placement years embed professional experience into the degree, giving you direct exposure to design practice in real studios or organisations and building the portfolio and professional network that are essential in a creative industry. The year abroad broadens your aesthetic sensibility and exposes you to design cultures beyond the UK. The typical entry tariff is 136 points. You will develop skills in typography, layout, branding, digital design, motion graphics, illustration, and the conceptual thinking that connects design decisions to communication objectives. Coventry's design programme is taught within a context of strong industry connections and a commitment to developing designers who are ready for professional practice. Graduates from graphic design programmes work as graphic designers, art directors, brand designers, UX and UI designers, digital designers, motion graphic designers, and creative directors across design studios, advertising agencies, publishing, in-house creative teams, and the technology sector. Further study at postgraduate level in design or visual communication is an option for those who want to specialise or pursue academic careers.
