BA History with Foundation
About this course
History is the study of the human past in all its complexity, exploring how societies have been organised, how power has been exercised, how people have understood themselves and others, and how the world we inhabit today came to be. It is a discipline that develops close reading of primary sources, the ability to evaluate competing interpretations, and the skill to construct well-evidenced arguments in writing. These are capabilities that are relevant far beyond the discipline itself, making history graduates adaptable and valued across a wide range of careers. The University of Westminster's four-year full-time History with Foundation degree is designed to provide a supported entry into degree-level study, offering the opportunity to prepare you for advanced study before progressing to the full honours degree. As Westminster notes, the foundation year is suited to students who may not feel ready for degree-level study, who do not yet have the right qualifications, or who are returning to education after a period away. The degree also includes a sandwich year option, a year abroad option, and work placement opportunities, giving you substantial professional experience and the potential for an international academic experience within the four years. The typical entry tariff is 104 points. Across the programme, you will study history across different periods, regions, and thematic areas, developing both breadth of historical knowledge and depth of analytical skill. History graduates work in teaching, journalism, the civil service, law, heritage and museum work, archives, public policy, politics, broadcasting, and publishing, among many other fields. The ability to research carefully, reason from evidence, and communicate clearly is valued in virtually any profession. Many graduates pursue further qualifications, including postgraduate study in history, law conversion, teacher training, or specialist programmes in areas such as archives, heritage, or international relations.
