BA Human Resource Management and Marketing
About this course
Human resource management is concerned with the most important resource in any organisation: the people who work for it. Recruitment and selection, training and development, performance management, employment law, employee relations and the strategic alignment of workforce capabilities with organisational goals are all central to the discipline. Marketing, alongside it, explores how organisations identify and reach their customers and how value is created, communicated and sustained in competitive markets. Studying the two together gives you an unusually versatile understanding of organisational life, covering both the internal people management that makes organisations function and the external-facing strategies that determine how they grow. At the University of Strathclyde, this four-year full-time programme includes a year abroad, broadening your perspective and giving you international exposure that is increasingly valued by employers. You will study recruitment and selection, training and development, managing conflict at work, employment law and strategic HR alongside modules in consumer behaviour, brand management, marketing communications, digital marketing and research methods. Strathclyde's BA business degrees have a strong professional reputation, and the integration of HR and marketing gives you a combination that is genuinely distinctive in the graduate marketplace. Graduates from this programme pursue careers in human resources, people management, talent acquisition, organisational development, employment relations and HR consultancy, as well as marketing roles in brand management, digital marketing, communications and market research. The breadth of the degree means many graduates move into management roles more generally. Professional qualifications with the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development or the Chartered Institute of Marketing are a natural complement to this degree and many graduates pursue them alongside or after completing their studies. Further study at master's level in HRM, marketing, business or management is also an option.
