BSc International Business
About this course
International business is the study of commercial and organisational activity across national borders. All significant businesses now operate in international contexts, and understanding the dynamics of global markets, cross-cultural management, international trade and regulation, foreign direct investment, and the challenges of operating in different political and economic environments is fundamental to effective management in the modern economy. International business draws on strategy, economics, organisational behaviour, finance, and marketing, integrating them with an explicitly international and comparative perspective. At Loughborough University, this four-year full-time programme includes a year abroad, which is a natural and important component of a degree explicitly focused on international business. The year abroad gives you direct experience of a different educational culture and country, broadening your perspective and adding an international dimension to your CV that is directly relevant to the subject matter. Loughborough has a strong business school with good industry connections, and the programme connects core business studies disciplines with their operation in international contexts. You will study strategy, marketing, finance, operations, and organisational behaviour, examining how each of these functions operates differently when firms move across national boundaries. You will develop analytical, strategic, and communicative skills alongside the cross-cultural awareness and international knowledge that international business specifically demands. The year abroad enriches both. Graduates from international business programmes enter careers in management consultancy, finance, international trade, corporate strategy, marketing, supply chain management, and a wide range of other fields. Many join organisations with significant international operations, and the cross-cultural competence developed is consistently valued by global employers. Postgraduate study including MBAs and specialist international business masters programmes is a natural option.
