BFin International Finance
About this course
International finance is the branch of financial study concerned with how capital moves between countries, how exchange rates and interest rates are determined in global markets, and how financial risks arising from international operations are managed. It addresses questions that matter to multinational corporations, governments, central banks, and investors: how do currency markets work, how do global interest rate dynamics affect investment decisions, and how can organisations hedge against financial risks that cross borders and currencies? At the University of Dundee, this four-year full-time programme covers the mechanics and operation of foreign exchange and interest rate markets, alongside financial econometrics and the monetary and financial issues that arise in a global economy. You will learn how international firms manage financial risk, developing both the theoretical understanding and the quantitative skills to model and analyse international financial markets. The programme includes a year abroad, giving you the opportunity to study in a different academic and cultural environment, which is particularly relevant for a degree whose subject matter is inherently international. The programme also offers an accelerated route for eligible students. Graduates from international finance programmes are well placed for careers in investment banking, asset management, treasury functions in multinational companies, central banking, financial regulatory bodies, financial consultancy, and financial technology. The quantitative and analytical skills the degree develops are also valued in roles in economic research and policy. The year abroad adds an international dimension to your professional profile that is genuinely valued by employers in globally active financial institutions. Postgraduate study in finance, financial economics, or quantitative finance is a natural option for those who wish to deepen their expertise.
