International Relations and Theology and Religion is a combination that addresses two of the most important forces shaping the contemporary world: the structures of power, diplomacy, and conflict between states and peoples, and the religious traditions, beliefs, and practices that motivate and divide human communities across the globe. International relations provides the frameworks for analysing the behaviour of states, the role of international organisations and law, questions of security and development, and the geopolitical forces driving change. Theology and Religion explores the origin, function, and meaning of religious traditions, comparing the major world religions and examining how faith shapes individual lives, communities, and political systems. At the University of Aberdeen, this four-year, full-time degree gives you solid grounding in the role of power, states, and governments in an ever-changing global context alongside a fascinating exploration of religion's place in that world. You will study and compare the major world religions, with special focus on Christian faith in its historic and contemporary forms, while also developing the analytical skills to understand how religion intersects with politics, conflict, diplomacy, and international development. The degree includes a year abroad, giving you the opportunity to pursue both subjects in an international academic context.
