About this course

Journalism is a discipline concerned with the gathering, verification, and communication of information to public audiences, and with the values of accuracy, fairness, and accountability that make that work matter. It has never been a more consequential or a more challenging profession: the digital transformation of media has disrupted traditional business models, changed the speed and form of news, and created new questions about misinformation, audience trust, and the future of public interest journalism. Journalism Studies prepares you to work intelligently within that transformed landscape. At the University of Stirling, this four-year, full-time programme gives you both the practical skills and the critical understanding that professional journalism requires. You will develop competence in news writing, reporting, digital journalism, broadcast skills, and data journalism alongside a rigorous academic engagement with the history, theory, and ethics of journalism as a practice and an institution. A year abroad is available, giving you the opportunity to study journalism in another national context, which deepens your comparative perspective and your understanding of how media systems and journalistic cultures vary across societies. Stirlng's journalism programme benefits from strong industry connections and a commitment to connecting academic study with professional practice. Graduates go on to careers in print and online journalism, broadcast journalism, radio, podcasting, data journalism, public affairs, communications, and content strategy across the full range of media organisations. Many also enter roles in PR, marketing, and corporate communications, where journalistic skills are highly transferable. Postgraduate study in journalism, media studies, political communication, or public relations is another route, and some graduates pursue academic careers in media and communication studies.
