LLB Law (Accelerated Programme)
About this course
Law is one of the most demanding and most valuable academic qualifications available, developing the capacity for precise analytical reasoning, the ability to construct and evaluate complex arguments, and a sophisticated understanding of how legal rules operate in society. For graduates who have already studied another subject and wish to pursue a career in the legal professions, the accelerated LLB provides a fast route to a qualifying law degree, fitting the full content of a three-year programme into two intensive years of full-time study. At Southampton, which has an established law school with a strong research reputation, this two-year full-time accelerated programme is designed for graduates of other disciplines who are committed to a career as a solicitor or barrister. You will study the core areas of English law required for academic qualification, including contract, tort, criminal law, constitutional and administrative law, and property law, covering the essential knowledge and skills that any qualified lawyer must possess. The accelerated structure means that the pace of learning is demanding and the workload significant, but for motivated students who have already demonstrated their academic ability at degree level, it is an exceptionally efficient route into the profession. Graduates from the accelerated LLB are eligible to proceed to the Legal Practice Course or Bar Practice Course, the professional training routes for solicitors and barristers respectively. Many also use their qualification to enter careers in compliance, corporate governance, business, and the civil service. The typical entry tariff of 152 points for direct entry reflects the academic demands of studying law at a leading research university, and the accelerated structure ensures that you can begin professional training and build your legal career without the additional time required for a conventional three-year degree.
